I think it is fair to say I am very excited about upcoming Les Misérables movie. But I it had me thinking that it might be worthwhile to do a brief look at some of the previous work of the lead actors. Some I am sure that you know well and others, others not so well and maybe some that you maybe only hearing about for the first time. So … I plan over the upcoming weeks a quick look at some of the lead actors and a quick retrospective of some of their work … well at least my version.
So to get us started let’s look at our new Jean Valjean … Hugh Jackman.
I have been a fan of Hugh Jackman’s well … lets just say for a while. And OK a small part of it might have something to do with the fact that he was originally an Australian musical theatre performer. I think it is fair to say that most people know him and his career after X-Men … so for Hugh I thought it might be fun to look at some of his work before Wolverine (otherwise is would be one very very long post).
So to begin … well in Australia, I think it is fair to say that his career really started to take-off (well at least for musical theatre people) after his performance in Beauty and the Beast and when he took the lead in Sunset Boulevard. Here is a video I found that includes some of his work in Beauty and the Beast and leading to the opening of Sunset Boulevard. Some great treasures in this one 🙂
I love this little clip from Paperback Hero. I remember watching the film for the first time and enjoying the fact that even during a rom com that they could add in one song – Crying.
This for me was and still is one of my favourite pieces of work from Hugh … Oklahoma. IMHO Hugh was the best Curly and I love the fact that he sang ‘Oh what a beautiful morning’ also at the Hey Mr Producer Concert for Cameron Mackintosh. A great production that I only wish I could have seen live.
And for a bit of a bonus I had to also include one of my favourites and his first time (to my knowledge) of him performing with Anne Hathaway at the 81st Academy Awards with Anne Hathaway
