This week I am grateful for our GPs, Dr Sam Hay and Dr James Best.
I think that I might have spoken about our great GPs before but they have recently restructured their practice, split in 2 and changed their name … so I think it is time to celebrate them again. Our family is fortunate to see 2 of the best GPs in Australia … ok I am extremely biased … but they truly are awesome. They are talented, professional, leaders in their fields of interest, dedicated and really listen … plus they are supported by a great team of nurses and other health and support professionals. If you live in the Inner West of Sydney I highly recommended both these 2 doctors as well as the practice, Your Doctors.
Dr Sam Hay has been our family GP for about 3 years now (I think). He is a awesome doctor that really understands issues affecting parents, families and small kids. I think it is obvious that he has a passion for family health and Paediatrics. I think him being a Dad helps too. What might not seem obvious is that he started in Medicine in the Army and continues to be active in the Reserves. One time I came back after I thought he was on leave and he was instead off with the army helping the soldiers in areas of conflict … how awesome!! I guess the main thing is that I trust him both with my health and that of my family. He is a great family doctor.
Dr James Best has been LittleMan’s doctor for about 12 months now and he is awesome too!! If you have Autism or a child with Autism and live in Sydney (and I mean all of Sydney not just the Inner West), Dr Best is who you want as your doctor. As a fellow parent of a child with Autism … he really gets it. He knows the issues, the treatments, the options, the Medicare paperwork … he just really gets it. I love how I don’t feel like I have to explain everything in detail about how things work. He already knows and can provide advise not just on the medicine but on how to navigate the system. In addition to his normal practice work he also gives his time to work with Autism Awareness to attend Information Days (across Australia) and has been involved in developing and delivering training programs to other GPs on Autism. Plus …. Dr Best was also recognised by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) General Practice as Supervisor of the Year Award 2010. See it is not just me that thinks he is tops!
So this week I am grateful for our wonderful GPs … the wonderful service that they provide us, how they help us navigate the minefield of the Australian health system and Medicare … and what they contribute as leaders in their field and to the community. Thank you!!
