One of the things I love best about the Scrapbooking and Digital Scrapbooking communities is the work that they do to highlight causes around the world and raise money for them. One great place that seems to do this on a regular basis is After 5 Designs. One of my favourite kits is a charity kit that they did last year to raise money and awareness of the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster – Hands Across the Gulf. It was a amazing kit with over 1GB of wonderful scrapping goodies from 45 designers. And while that kit is no longer available they have another available for an equally good cause … Beautiful Earth raising money for Red Cross 2011 New Zealand earthquake appeal.
Beautiful Earth is a beautiful kit with over 1GB of scrapbooking goodness from 29 digital scrapbook artists, including over 380 items. The proceeds of this charity collaboration will go to the Red Cross 2011 New Zealand earthquake appeal.
The Beautiful Earth Charity collab is priced at $12.50 (poignant because at 12:51pm on the 22nd of Febuary 2011 the earthquake happened the 2nd large earthquake struck). At 12:50pm ( 1 minute before the earthquake) everything was normal. One minute later the lives of everyone affected and the landscape of Christchurch would be changed forever.
I love Christchurch. I visited there only a few weeks after the September 2010 earthquake. While there was still some building closed off and in need to demolition, I was amazed and how the city had picked itself up and had come back to normal. It is a lovely city that is only topped by the wonderful people that call it home. I loved the resilience of the everyone. They were not to be beaten. While I understand that they have lots of small aftershocks (I understand that there were a few while we were there but I was none the wiser), the last 2 large ones are just heartbreaking (22nd Feb & 13 June). I believe that Christchurch will be rebuild and will be as beautiful as ever but there will always be a scare on the heart for those that have been lost.
So let’s help our Kiwi cousins and do some scrapping for good.
