Today I am grateful for poetry. Yesterday I read an amazing poem by Melinda Smith called First…Then… on a guest post at Aspie in the Family. It is such a beautiful poem describing the some of the experiences of a parent of an autistic child. I know that every parent has different experiences from birth through to suspicion to diagnosis and then therapy .. but I think that there are some things that we all experience and know .. I love this poem.
But what it also has provided me is a timely reminder about how much I love poetry .. and the power that poetry can have. I have been reading and listening (gotta love Youtube) to some amazing poetry … some new (well at least for me) … some old .. some favourites and some that well maybe I just could not appreciate when I was younger.
Some of my favourites are the Shakespearen Sonnets … Here is a great reading of Sonnet 29
Joining Maxabella loves…. in this weeks I’m grateful for…

Thanks for this post.
When reading your first paragraph I was thinking, “Oh this girl LOVES poetry” you can just tell. And then you said how you realised its power.
But then I watch the YouTube clip, and thought, “no wonder”.
Thanks so much for linking up today, and sharing Sonnet 29 too. xx

Glad you liked my poem and thanks for sharing the link to it here. I too am grateful for poetry every day, reading it and writing it have saved me many times from going over the edge. x. Melinda
Thanks for visiting!
I think I was being alittle self indulgent with my poetry grateful week. It is fun to just get immersed in the poetry and the spoken word … to escape in the caresses of the words.

Your poem is amazing. If you ever want to share you work here please let me know.
I think that poetry is so important to get us to step back from our everyday lives and reflect on the world that we live in. I think it is just too easy to get trapped in the everyday mundane … what we have to do … and that poetry can lift us to get some perspective. Well that is true for me … my only danger is getting lost it in. Escaping sometimes is good … but in the end we all have to return. …
